The Blue Institute delivers inaugural event in Indonesia

The Blue Institute was honoured to host a High-Level Forum on Blue Natural Capital in Manado, Indonesia, between June 7th and 9th, 2024.
The Institute’s first ever event, delegates were afforded a variety of presentations that enabled them to further appreciate the potential of blue natural capital – a source for the stability of nations and thus a great investment opportunity to bring about sustainable benefits such as the preservation, regeneration and proper management of a nation’s marine resources.

Co-hosted by the Coral Triangle Initiative,, such potential was not overlooked by Coral Triangle representatives, the world's epicentre of marine biodiversity that encompasses the seas of Indonesia, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Solomon Islands, and Timor Leste. Indeed, the Coral Triangle is considered one of the three mega ecological complexes on our planet, together with the Congo Basin and the Amazon Rainforest.
One of the Blue Institute’s six key principles focuses on a commitment to partnership, and this was very much evident throughout this inaugural event, supported and co-delivered as it was by prestigious bodies such as the Ministry of Marine Affair and Fisheries of the Republic of Indonesia, North Sulawesi Province, Manado City, the ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity and the Republic of Seychelles Envoy for ASEAN.

The event was opened by H.E. Mr. Nico Barito, Founder of Blue Institute, and the programme featured content such as the introduction of Coral Triangle Conservation Fund (CTCF) by Dr. Yang Mee Eng, CEO of CTCF; an exploration of microfinance for coastal economies by Mr. Nobuiku Chiba, Representative Director of JTrustGroup and Board of Commissioner of JTrust Bank Indonesia; a fascinating site visit to a Tuna Processing Plantat Bitung; and various supporting presentations by Board members of the Blue Institute.

The Blue Institute extends its appreciation to all of the partners and delegates that made this event possible. We are fully committed to delivering a range of capacity building initiatives to help stakeholders protect and preserve blue natural capital within a holistic Blue Economy approach.

We are currently initiating a range of blue carbon and Blue Economy capacity building projects in various parts of the world. Please contact us if you would like to discuss potential collaboration.
